The 1998 season has
definitely been an enjoyable and memorable season for the
trumpet section, and the entire UDMB. With the
section growing to a tremendous size of players (almost
doubling last year's number!), the fun and excitement was
bound to increase as well!
Since this is the off-season for marching band (and with
the recent bad weather, that would not be fun in and of
itself), there are a lot of us from the trumpet section
that are also in the University of Delaware's Basketball
Pep Band. What other way can you get to see every
home game of the UD Basketball Game for free, and make
fun of the referees and opposing team, too? Plus,
you get a free soda with every game, and a really nifty
jacket!
If you were in the trumpet section last year, and
would like to put up a "memory" here on the
page for future people to view and cherish, please let me
know by clicking here.
I'll be more than happy to put up anything (within
reason) that you would like!
TRADITIONS
Pre-Game
At the end of the band's pregame show, which
includes Delaware Forever, The Star-Spangled
Banner, The U of D Fight Song, & Tower
Chimes/Alma Mater, the trumpet section (and the
rest of the brass) take over the football team's
chairs and produce one of the loudest sounding songs
you have ever heard - FIRST DOWN! We
then rejoin the rest of the band in making the Tunnel
while the Tuba section presents Bozo,
and the drum line then comes in with
their feature, Juice.
During the Game
Every time the UD Football team (ok, most times)
completes a first down, guess what? We play FIRST
DOWN!
Half-Time
A few minutes before the beginning of half-time,
the entire brass section gathers for warmups.
At home games, we assemble our double arcs (from
overhead, it looks really cool), right between the
student section stands and the home stands,
underneath a humongous tree. Even in warmups,
you can just feel the sound of the section rattling
your bones!
